FCT POLLS: Madaki Secures Tiv Backing, Promises Health, Grassroots Revival in AMAC

With days to the February 21, 2026 Area Council elections, the Chairmanship candidate of the Young Progressives Party (YPP), Hon. Robert Madaki, has secured strong backing from Tiv leaders in Abuja, boosting his campaign for the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) seat.

Madaki met with leaders of the Tiv community in Abuja, describing them as a key voting bloc across AMAC and critical partners in the push for credible leadership in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

He told the gathering that AMAC has lacked visible leadership and effective governance for years, leaving many communities without basic services.

“From Nyanya to Kuchigoro, Gwarimpa to Area One, many residents still do not feel the presence of the Area Council. It is unacceptable that in 2026, some mothers still give birth at home because of poor access to healthcare. That will change under my leadership,” he declared.

Madaki said his background in community development across Africa has prepared him to reposition AMAC through practical programmes focused on healthcare, infrastructure and grassroots engagement.

Responding, President of Mdzough U Tiv Abuja Chapter, Prince Terver Michael Kokoiyen, praised the YPP candidate for directly engaging the Tiv community.

He noted that Madaki was the first chairmanship hopeful to formally seek their support ahead of the polls, calling it a sign that he understands the political strength of the Tiv people in AMAC.

“We appreciate this visit. We will inform our leaders and members across AMAC. You have shown respect to our community, and we will support you in earnest,” Kokoiyen said.

Leaders from various Tiv wards in AMAC also pledged massive votes for the YPP candidate.

The campaign team later paid homage to the Ter Tiv Abuja Chapter, receiving royal blessings as Madaki intensifies efforts to clinch victory in Saturday’s FCT polls.
