EU Boosts Nigeria’s Digital Transformation with Fresh €45 Million Global Gateway Investment By Raymond Enoch
The European Union has deepened its strategic digital partnership with Nigeria through a new €45 million investment aimed at accelerating the country’s digital economy growth, innovation ecosystem, and technology-enabled development.
The landmark agreement was signed today in Brussels during the EU–Nigeria Digital Open Day by Nigeria’s Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr. ‘Bosun Tijani, and the European Commissioner for International Partnerships, Jozef Síkela.
The new funding completes the EU’s broader Digital Economy Package for Nigeria under the Global Gateway initiative — Europe’s flagship strategy for sustainable and trusted global partnerships.
According to officials, the investment will strengthen cooperation between Nigeria and the EU across critical areas, including digital infrastructure, cybersecurity, digital governance, skills development, and support for tech-driven enterprises.
Dr. Tijani welcomed the initiative, noting that the partnership aligns with Nigeria’s drive to build a resilient, inclusive, and globally competitive digital economy.
The EU, through Commissioner Síkela, described Nigeria as a key partner whose digital potential presents vast opportunities for innovation, investment, and job creation across Africa and beyond.
With this additional financing, the EU reaffirms its commitment to supporting Nigeria’s digital transformation agenda, bridging technological gaps, and enabling wider socio-economic impact for millions of citizens.
