ECOWAS Warns General Public Against Fake Job and Tender Scams.
By Raymond Enoch
The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) have issued a strong alarm over the circulation of fraudulent recruitment advertisements and fake calls for tenders being spread through unofficial websites and online platforms by individuals seeking to defraud unsuspecting members of the public.
In a statement issued by the Communication Directorate, ECOWAS cautioned that it never requests payments or bank details from applicants, bidders, or consultants for employment, contract participation, or public procurement processes.
“The Commission does not charge any fees for recruitment or tender participation and has not authorized any third parties to act on its behalf,” the statement read. “Members of the public are advised to remain vigilant and disregard any solicitation asking for money or personal financial information.”
The regional body emphasized that all legitimate ECOWAS opportunities and information can only be accessed through its verified communication channels, including its website (www.ecowas.int) and official social media handles across Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, LinkedIn, X (Twitter), and YouTube under the name @ecowas_cedeao.
Warning that such fraudulent activities constitute cybercrime punishable by law, ECOWAS reaffirmed its commitment to pursue legal action against perpetrators to protect the integrity of its name and the safety of the public.
The Commission urged citizens across West Africa to stay alert, verify information before responding to any offers, and report suspicious activities through official ECOWAS platforms.
