ECOWAS Strengthens Contract Management with a Capacity-Building Workshop in Lagos

Economic Community of West African States ( ECOWAS ) in a significant move to enhance transparency, accountability, and efficiency in contract management, has convened a Capacity Building Workshop on Control and Vetting of Contracts in Lagos, Nigeria.

The three-day workshop brought together key officers from various ECOWAS institutions, including the Auditor-General (ECOWAS Institutions), ECOWAS Parliament, ECOWAS Court of Justice, and the Directorate of Administration & General Services (DAGS).

This initiative aims to identify bottlenecks hindering the timely signing of contracts and to establish clear, standardized guidelines for the vetting and review of donor and community-funded projects.

Accordingly participants are expected to develop a Control Checklist to streamline contract processes across ECOWAS agencies.

The training also reinforces ECOWAS’ commitment to good governance and transparency in contract management, ensuring compliance with best practices.

With participants drawn from key administrative, financial, and legal representatives of the Commission to foster a collaborative approach to improving internal control processes and enhancing project execution.

This capacity-building effort, approved by the President of the ECOWAS Commission, marks another step in strengthening institutional efficiency within the regional body.
