ECOWAS Reaffirms Support for Guinea’s Democratic Transition During a High-Level Mission to Conakry.

n a demonstration of a continued show of commitment to democratic governance in West Africa, the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has dispatched a high-level technical mission to Conakry to support Guinea’s transition back to constitutional rule.

Leading the delegation was Ambassador Abdel-Fatau Musah, ECOWAS Commissioner for Political Affairs, Peace and Security. Acting on behalf of the President of the ECOWAS Commission, Dr. Omar Alieu Touray, Ambassador Musah led a series of strategic engagements with key Guinean authorities from Thursday, April 10 to Friday, April 11. 2025
The visit, according to ECOWAS centered on assessing progress and reinforcing commitment to a ten-point transition agreement signed between the regional body and Guinea. This agreement outlines a detailed timetable and roadmap aimed at restoring constitutional order following the 2021 military coup.

“Our presence here underscores ECOWAS’ unwavering support for the people of Guinea and their right to democratic governance,” said Ambassador Musah. “We are here to ensure that the agreed timeline is respected and that the transitional process stays on course.”
During the meetings, ECOWAS representatives and Guinean authorities held in-depth discussions on key elements of the transition, including electoral reforms, institution building, and the eventual organization of free and fair elections.
The mission marks a critical moment in ECOWAS’ broader strategy to foster peace, stability, and constitutional governance across West Africa, especially in nations grappling with political upheavals.
