In a significant move to bolster Nigeria’s energy access in critical sectors, over 30 participants from Nigeria’s Federal Ministries of Energy, Health, Education, and Budget gathered in Abuja for a National Workshop, hosted by ECOWAS and supported by the Netherlands Government

The workshop which focused on the electrification of public institutions, particularly schools and health centers, through solar photovoltaic technology. is part of the Regional initiative of Off-Grid Electrification Access Project (ROGEAP), aims to tackle energy deficits in public institutions across Nigeria’s Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nasarawa, and Niger States.

ROGEAP, which enjoys joint financing from the World Bank, the Clean Technology Fund, and the Directorate General for International Cooperation (DGIS) of the Netherlands Government, presented the results of feasibility studies and proposed sustainable financing models to implement these vital energy solutions.
The workshop underscored the importance of collaboration among government agencies, energy specialists, and international partners in realizing the electrification of vital sectors that directly impact Nigerians’ daily lives. The session also highlighted the progress made since the awareness forum held in September 2024, where stakeholders came together to mobilize for a unified strategy.
As Nigeria seeks sustainable solutions for its energy challenges, this workshop marks a crucial step toward the electrification of public institutions and better service delivery in education and healthcare across the country.
