ECOWAS Hands Over Twin Border Post Between Liberia–Sierra Leone to Fast-Track Regional Trade.

ECOWAS is committed to regional integration and development, mobilising its resources to contribute to meaningful, life-changing infrastructure in Member States. This resolve was again demonstrated on 22 November 2025, when the Commission formally handed over the site for the construction of a modern Twin Border Post (TBP) between Liberia and Sierra Leone at the Jendema–Bo Waterside crossing.
Leading the ceremony, the Vice-President of the ECOWAS Commission, Her Excellency Damtien L. Tchintchibidja, headed a high-level delegation from Liberia and Sierra Leone to lay a symbolic foundation stone and officially transfer the site to the company awarded the construction contract. The project, scheduled to be completed within twenty-four (24) months, marks a major step toward transforming one of the region’s busy land borders into a streamlined, secure and trade-friendly gateway.
Anchored in ECOWAS Vision 2050, the Jendema–Bo Waterside Twin Border Post is designed to facilitate the free movement of people and goods, deepen economic integration and expand regional trade. Entirely funded by the ECOWAS Commission, the facility forms part of the regional transport facilitation programme and is expected to significantly improve trade efficiency, reduce transit times, and promote the smooth movement of goods and travellers across the Liberia–Sierra Leone border.
Beyond boosting commerce, the project is also aimed at strengthening the social and economic fabric of border communities in both countries, while enhancing regional connectivity along the vital Praia–Dakar–Abidjan corridor. According to technical details, the Jendema site in Sierra Leone covers approximately 81,050.822 square metres (20.26 acres) of sparsely vegetated land, while the Bo Waterside site in Liberia spans about 73,250 square metres (18.10 acres), providing ample space for state-of-the-art border, customs, security and trade facilitation facilities.
With the official handover of the site, ECOWAS—under the leadership of President Omar Alieu Touray and Vice-President Damtien L. Tchintchibidja—has once again signalled its determination to move from vision to action, investing in practical cross-border infrastructure that brings regional integration closer to citizens’ daily lives in Liberia, Sierra Leone and the wider Community.
