ECOWAS Delegation, Led by Dr. Omar Alieu Touray, Participates in AU’s 46th Executive Council Session.

The 46th Ordinary Session of the Executive Council of the African Union (AU) officially commenced today 12th February 2025 at Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, bringing together African leaders, foreign ministers, and high-level dignitaries to deliberate on the continent’s pressing political, economic, and security challenges.
This year’s session holds significant weight as it includes the election of new AU leaders and commissioners who will steer the organization’s policies in the coming years.
Leading the ECOWAS delegation is H.E. Dr. Omar Alieu Touray, President of the ECOWAS Commission. accompanied by Commissioner Abdel Fatau Musah, Political Affairs, Peace, and Security, alongside a team of ECOWAS experts.
The delegation will actively participate in crucial discussions on Africa’s development, peace, and security.
Beyond the main session, ECOWAS representatives are engaging in parallel dialogues, including the Coordination Platform of Regional Economic Communities (RECs) across Africa. This forum is pivotal for harmonizing regional policies, ensuring greater collaboration among African economic blocs, and addressing common security and governance challenges.
In recent years, ECOWAS has been at the forefront of responding to democratic setbacks, military coups, and economic instability in West Africa. Dr. Touray’s presence signals the bloc’s continued commitment to promoting democratic governance, regional security, and sustainable economic development within ECOWAS member states.
