ECOWAS Commission President, Dr Omar Alieu Touray Congratulates Dr. Sidi Ould Tah as AfDB President Elect.

The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has on behalf of the Commission extended a warm congratulatory message to Dr. Sidi Ould Tah, following his election as President of the African Development Bank (AfDB) on Thursday, 29 May 2025.

In a statement issued today in Abuja Nigeria, Dr. Omar Alieu Touray, President of the ECOWAS Commission, praised Dr. Tah’s “impressive election” and expressed confidence in his leadership to drive the Bank’s development mandate across the continent.

Dr. Touray conveyed his best wishes to the new AfDB President and his team, emphasizing the crucial role they will play in fostering sustainable growth and economic resilience in Africa. He also reaffirmed ECOWAS’ strong commitment to deepening its partnership with the AfDB, particularly in the joint implementation of projects aimed at making meaningful and lasting impacts in Member States and enhancing the African private sector.

The message reflects the strategic importance of collaboration between regional organizations and continental financial institutions in addressing Africa’s development challenges.
