ECOWAS @50: Vice President Leads Final Inspection of Lagos Venues Ahead of Anniversary Celebration
By Raymond Enoch
As the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) gears up to celebrate its 50th anniversary, top officials from the regional institution are concluding a high-level inspection of key venues slated to host the commemorative events in Lagos, Nigeria.
Leading the delegation was H.E. Mrs. Damtien Tchintchibidja, Vice President of the ECOWAS Commission, who visited the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs (NIIA) and the Conference Room of the EKO Hôtel complex — two significant locations central to the golden jubilee festivities.

The NIIA holds historical importance as the site where the ECOWAS founding treaty was signed on May 28, 1975, by the founding heads of state and government. The EKO Hôtel venue is expected to host dignitaries, delegates, and special guests during the celebration.
Mrs. Tchintchibidja was accompanied by Mr. Abdullahi Nazifi Darma, ECOWAS Commissioner for Internal Affairs, and Ambassador Musa Nuhu, Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to ECOWAS. The inspection aimed to ensure that facilities are ready and security protocols in place for the landmark event.

“This 50th anniversary is not just a celebration of our past, but a recommitment to the ideals of regional integration, peace, and shared prosperity,” Mrs. Tchintchibidja remarked during the visit.
The ECOWAS @50 events will bring together heads of state, former leaders, diplomats, and development partners from across West Africa and beyond, highlighting the achievements and future aspirations of the regional body.
Preparations are reportedly in top gear, with the ECOWAS Commission and government of Nigeria assuring the public of a memorable and well-coordinated celebration.
