Dr. Omar Alieu Touray, the President of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Commission, has welcomed a high-level delegation from the Federation of West African Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FEWACCI) at the ECOWAS headquarters in Abuja, Nigeria.

The meeting served as a strategic platform to strengthen collaboration between ECOWAS and FEWACCI, with a shared goal of fostering regional economic integration and boosting private sector growth in West Africa. Discussions focused on improving trade facilitation, promoting cross-border business opportunities, and addressing challenges that hinder economic cooperation within the region.

Dr. Touray reaffirmed ECOWAS’s commitment to supporting the private sector as a driving force for economic development. He emphasized the critical role of regional chambers of commerce in shaping policies and creating an enabling environment for businesses to thrive.

The FEWACCI delegation, led by Edrissa JOBE, President of the Gambia Chamber of Commerce and Industry, called for greater collaboration between the private sector and West African Chambers of Commerce in the activities and decisions taken at the ECOWAS Summit.

The FEWACCI delegation expressed gratitude for the continued partnership and outlined proposals for joint initiatives, including capacity-building programs, digital trade platforms, and advocacy for policy harmonization across member states.

This meeting underscores the shared vision of ECOWAS and FEWACCI to build a more prosperous and interconnected West African region, leveraging the potential of private enterprise as a cornerstone for regional stability and development.

The visit concluded with a commitment to further deepen collaboration through regular consultations and joint projects aimed at achieving inclusive economic growth across the ECOWAS bloc.
