Diplomatic Community Mourns, Nigeria Envoy to Guinea Bissau Joy Momodu Losses Life

In a tragic development that has cast a pall over Nigeria’s diplomatic corps, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced the sudden passing of Mrs. Zainab Joy Momodu, Chargé d’Affaires ad interim at the Nigerian Embassy in Guinea-Bissau. She died at the Military Hospital in Bissau on Monday, July 7, 2025, after a brief illness.
In a statement signed by Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mrs. Momodu was praised as a dedicated and accomplished career diplomat. Joining the Nigerian Foreign Service in 2010 as part of the 20th Regular Course of the Foreign Service Academy, she served the nation with exemplary professionalism and unwavering commitment.
Describing her death as “a great loss to the Ministry, the diplomatic community, and the nation at large,” the Ministry expressed heartfelt condolences to her family, friends, and colleagues, while praying for the peaceful repose of her soul.
Her passing leaves a void not only within the Nigerian mission in Guinea-Bissau but also among those she served alongside in promoting Nigeria’s foreign interests with quiet strength and distinguished service.
