In a decisive step toward strengthening regional connectivity and integration, the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Commission has undertaken a joint monitoring mission for the construction of the 288-metre Cavalla River Bridge linking Côte d’Ivoire and Liberia.

The three-day mission, held from November 5 to 7, 2025, underscores ECOWAS’s strategic commitment to facilitating trade, mobility, and economic cooperation between member states through critical cross-border infrastructure.

Led by Mr. Chris Appiah, Director of Transport at the ECOWAS Commission, the delegation comprised representatives from the Ivorian Government and the ECOWAS Resident Representative in Côte d’Ivoire. The team’s visit focused on evaluating progress made on-site, strengthening institutional coordination, and ensuring timely delivery of the project in alignment with ECOWAS Vision 2050 — a roadmap that prioritizes inclusive development, peace, and prosperity through interconnected economies.

The Cavalla River Bridge, a vital component of the Road Development and Transport Facilitation Programme of the Mano River Union, is expected to significantly boost cross-border trade and social interaction between Côte d’Ivoire and Liberia. Once completed, the 288-metre structure will not only ease transport and logistics challenges but also enhance regional resilience by fostering economic integration and people-to-people exchange across West Africa’s coastal corridor.

The ECOWAS Commission reiterated that the project represents more than a bridge — it stands as a symbol of shared progress and unity among West African nations, reinforcing the bloc’s long-term vision of a region without borders, where infrastructure drives collective growth and prosperity.
