AIG Olaiya Visits Niger Governor After School Abductions, Assures Swift Police Action.

The Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Zone 7 AIG Victor Olaiya, psc(+), has visited the Niger State Governor, His Excellency Farmer (Dr.) Mohammed Umar Bago, in Minna, over the abduction of students and staff of St. Mary’s Catholic Private Primary and Secondary School, Papiri, in Agwara Local Government Area of the state.

According to a press statement signed by ASP Mohammed Halima, Police Public Relations Officer, for the Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Zone 7 Abuja, the visit was to commiserate with the government and people of Niger State on behalf of the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D, NPM, following the tragic incident which occurred in the early hours of 21 November 2025.

During the visit to the Government House, AIG Olaiya conveyed the sympathy of the Police High Command to Governor Bago and reassured him of the IGP’s commitment to ensuring that the abducted students and staff are rescued unhurt. He disclosed that additional tactical teams have already been deployed to Niger State to reinforce ongoing rescue operations being coordinated by the Niger State Police Command.

AIG Olaiya further appealed to residents of Niger State to support security agencies with credible information and all necessary cooperation to guarantee a swift, safe, and seamless rescue of the victims. He emphasized that community support remains critical to the success of such high-risk operations.

In his response, Governor Bago commended the proactive steps and prompt response of the Inspector General of Police and expressed appreciation for the solidarity shown to the government and people of the state at a time of distress. He pledged the unwavering support of the Niger State Government to security agencies, stressing that the protection of lives and property remains the primary responsibility of government.

The governor thanked the AIG for the visit and expressed optimism that ongoing efforts will soon yield positive results in securing the safe return of the abducted students and staff.
