Africa CDC Breaks New Ground with ADHOPT Pilot to Transform Digital Health Planning in Botswana. By Raymond Enoch

Phase 1 of the Needs Assessment for the Africa Digital Health Observatory for Planning and Transformation (ADHOPT) has been successfully completed, marking a major milestone in Africa CDC’s drive to strengthen digital health systems across the continent.

In close collaboration with the Ministry of Health, Botswana, and national stakeholders, Africa CDC carried out a comprehensive mapping of the country’s digital health landscape. The team also co-designed a centralized platform to track digital maturity and guide evidence-based health planning.

The pilot phase ensures that ADHOPT is not only practical but fully aligned with local needs and Member State–driven, laying the foundation for a more cohesive and data-informed approach to health system strengthening in Africa.

“This initiative demonstrates Africa CDC’s commitment to leveraging digital innovation for effective, locally led health planning,” a senior official said.

With Phase 1 complete, the program is poised for broader implementation across other Member States, promising a transformative leap in how digital health data informs policy and decision-making continent-wide.
