In her goodwill message, Hon. (Lady) Perpetual Nkechi Okafor (LSM), Chairman of AFAN FCT Chapter, emphasized the importance of multi-season farming in tackling food insecurity.
She called on relevant ministries, agencies, and donor organizations to support year-round agricultural production, stressing that reliance on a single farming season is inadequate to meet Nigeria’s food demands.
“This workplan is our roadmap for sustainable agricultural growth. We are determined to collaborate with partners and stakeholders to ensure continuous production. With the right support, Nigerian farmers can achieve remarkable progress,” she stated.
She also highlighted AFAN FCT’s commitment to inclusive leadership, ensuring that all farmers, including those without access to digital tools, are actively involved in agricultural development.
The event reinforced the need for structured field monitoring, partnerships, and greater investment in agricultural value chains to empower farmers and boost productivity.
The 2025 Workplan marks the beginning of what AFAN FCT hopes will become an annual tradition of strategic planning and implementation, paving the way for improved agricultural outcomes and sustainable food security in Nigeria.
The National President of AFAN, Architect Kabir Ibrahim, who attended the event in person, shared similar views. He urged governments at all levels and development partners to assist AFAN members in their pursuit of year-round farming, in line with President Bola Tinubu’s food security initiative.
Among the distinguished guests at the event were senior government officials and representatives from international organizations, all of whom reaffirmed their dedication to supporting farmers in the FCT through AFAN. They praised Hon. Okafor’s leadership for her proactive and effective efforts in advocating for farmers’ welfare and advancing agricultural development in the region.
A key highlights of the event was the distribution of free farm inputs to AFAN FCT members, a gesture that was warmly received and greatly appreciated by the beneficiaries.
