The Nigerian Army has launched its second Commanding Officers’ Workshop for 2025 with a resolute focus on bolstering adaptive leadership and sharpening operational effectiveness across its tactical commands.

Held at the Headquarters 3 Division, Maxwell Khobe Cantonment in Jos on July 8, 2025, the high-level event gathered senior military leaders, commanding officers from formations nationwide, and heads of various sister security agencies.
The Press Statement announcing the event was signed by Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, Acting Deputy Director Army Public Relations, 3 Division Nigerian Army said that the workshop’s core objective is to improve the administrative and operational capacity of officers at the tactical level by deepening their leadership acumen and decision-making capabilities within joint and multi-agency operations. The aim, the statement notes, is not merely theoretical but practical—anchored in real-world military challenges that demand strategic foresight and agility.

Declaring the event open, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General OO Oluyede, represented by Major General OC Ajunwa, Commander Armour Corps, emphasized that adaptive leadership is crucial in the face of Nigeria’s dynamic security environment. “The objective of this workshop goes beyond theoretical knowledge,” Lt Gen Oluyede stated. “We aim to provide practical insights into managing contemporary security threats and leading our soldiers effectively.”
In his welcome address, Major General EF Oyinlola, General Officer Commanding (GOC) 3 Division and Commander Operation SAFE HAVEN, lauded the workshop as timely and essential. “This platform for shared experience and innovation is vital for our operational effectiveness,” he said, emphasizing the critical leadership role that commanding officers play in ensuring mission success in complex operational terrains. He further expressed appreciation to the COAS for choosing 3 Division as the host and recognized Major General AS Ndalolo, Chief of Training (Army), for meticulously coordinating the workshop’s execution.

The workshop, themed “Enhancing Tactical Level Command and Leadership within a Joint Environment,” features an intensive schedule of lectures, interactive panels, and scenario-based group discussions. These are designed to promote collaborative thinking and equip commanders with tools to confront evolving threats while integrating seamlessly with other security entities.
With sessions led by seasoned military strategists and operational commanders, the workshop sets a benchmark in the Army’s ongoing commitment to fostering excellence, resilience, and strategic foresight at the tactical level.
