Chobo – Bachama: Adamawa Police Command Deploys Troops to Quell Clash.

The Adamawa State Police Command has moved swiftly to quell a communal clash between members of the Chobo and Bachama communities in Rigange, Lamurde Local Government Area, following a sudden outbreak of violence that threatened the fragile peace in the region.

In an official statement issued on Monday, July 7, 2025 in Yola the Adamawa State Capital, the Commissioner of Police, CP Dankombo Morris, PSC(+), condemned the unrest in strong terms, warning that such acts of violence will not be tolerated under any circumstance.

The Commissioner ordered the immediate deployment of tactical police units to Rigange to restore law and order, emphasizing that the command is fully committed to preventing the escalation of the conflict and protecting lives and property.

“We have zero tolerance for communal violence. Any individual or group found instigating or participating in actions that endanger public peace will face the full weight of the law,” CP Morris stated through the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, Anipr.

Although the exact cause of the dispute remains unclear at the time of this report, local sources suggest rising tension over boundary claims and longstanding grievances may have fueled the confrontation.

The police command has urged community leaders and stakeholders to exercise restraint, engage in dialogue, and support ongoing efforts by law enforcement to restore calm.

As at the time of filing this report, normalcy is gradually returning to the area, though security personnel remain on high alert. The Command reiterated its resolve to maintain peace across all communities in Adamawa State and called on residents to report suspicious activities promptly.

The unfolding situation in Rigange underscores the delicate ethnic and communal balance in parts of Nigeria’s North-East and the critical role security agencies play in managing conflict and sustaining peace.

Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely as investigations into the root causes of the unrest commence.
