As the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) marks its 50th anniversary, the regional organization has reaffirmed its commitment to social inclusion and regional development through a generous donation to Ghana’s Dzorwulu Special School in Accra.
On May 28, 2025, during the joint celebrations of ECOWAS Day and the bloc’s golden jubilee held in Ghana, Ambassador Mohammed Lawan Gana, ECOWAS Resident Representative, visited the special school to deliver an impactful donation of foodstuffs and educational materials. This gesture underscores ECOWAS’s dedication to supporting vulnerable communities, particularly children with disabilities.

Mr. Frederick Tete, headmaster of the Dzorwulu Special School, expressed heartfelt gratitude for the timely support. “This donation comes at a crucial time, helping us address ongoing challenges in providing quality education and care for our students,” he said. “We are deeply grateful to ECOWAS for this benevolent initiative, which reflects genuine concern for the welfare of children with disabilities.”
Mr. Tete also urged parents and guardians to take a more active role in the education of children with disabilities, emphasizing that their involvement is essential for creating a nurturing environment where these children can thrive.

By focusing on one of the region’s most marginalized groups, ECOWAS sends a strong message of solidarity, inclusiveness, and mutual support—core values that have defined the regional community for five decades. This act of generosity highlights how ECOWAS continues to balance its economic and political goals with a steadfast commitment to human development.
As the organization reflects on 50 years of regional cooperation and integration, the anniversary celebrations in Ghana not only honor past achievements but also set a hopeful tone for a future that is inclusive, compassionate, and united across West Africa.
