In a decisive step toward revitalising Nigeria’s agricultural sector, Vice President Senator Kashim Shettima today received a delegation from the World Cocoa Foundation (WCF), led by its President, Mr. Chris Vincent, at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

During the meeting, Vice President Shettima reaffirmed the unwavering commitment of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration to transform Nigeria’s cocoa industry—from a primary producer to a globally competitive processor and exporter.

“The administration is fully committed to reviving the cocoa industry and the entire agricultural value chain,” the Vice President stated. “Our clear objective is to transition the sector from being merely a producer to becoming a global processor of cocoa.”

The Vice President also underscored the government’s push for sustainable cocoa farming practices and forest preservation, noting that these efforts are critical to long-term agricultural and environmental resilience.

“We can reclaim our lost glory,” he added. “President Tinubu remains fully committed to revitalising not just the cocoa industry, but all agricultural value chains across the country.”

Nigeria, once a powerhouse in global cocoa production, is now strategically positioning itself to re-enter the market with stronger processing capabilities, increased value addition, and sustainable practices.

The visit by the WCF leadership marks a key moment in forging international partnerships that will support the administration’s agricultural transformation agenda.
