Mano River Union Leadership Strengthens Ties with ECOWAS, Formalizes Cooperation Framework By Raymond Enoch

In a decisive step toward deepening regional integration and cooperation, the Executive Leadership of the Mano River Union (MRU), led by Secretary General Ambassador Simeon MORIBAH, paid a high-level courtesy visit to the Vice President of the ECOWAS Commission, H.E. Mrs. Damtien L. TCHINTCHIBIDJA, at the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja, Nigeria.

The visit, which marked a significant milestone in inter-regional diplomacy, brought together senior MRU officials including Ambassador Ange Monu, Deputy Secretary General for Peace and Security, and Ambassador Ama Gborie Foday, Deputy Secretary General for Economic Development and Regional Integration. The leaders engaged in wide-ranging discussions aimed at harmonizing efforts to tackle shared challenges and unlock regional opportunities.

Key points for the visit included enhancing regional mobility, joint conflict prevention strategies, bolstering climate resilience, empowering youth through skills development, and reinforcing institutional capacity. Both institutions agreed to formalize their cooperation through a comprehensive joint framework—signaling a new era of strategic partnership between the two West African blocs.

“This is more than a courtesy call—it’s a reaffirmation of our shared destiny and a united vision for a stronger, more resilient West Africa,” Ambassador Moribah stated following the meeting.

Vice President Tchintchibidja echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the importance of regional solidarity in addressing transnational issues: “Our collaboration must transcend words and evolve into concrete, impactful action.”

The MRU–ECOWAS alignment is seen as a timely and strategic move, particularly as the region confronts complex socio-political and environmental challenges. With a formal framework in sight, both bodies appear poised to transform their shared ambitions into measurable progress for the people of West Africa.
