ECOWAS Mission to Liberia Issue a Communique, Prioritize Peace , Stability and Resolution of Political Impasse.

The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) high level mission to Liberia has issued a communiqué urging all stakeholders in Liberia to work together toward ending the ongoing political impasse that is threatening the stability and governance of the country. The high level mission led by Professor Ibrahim Gambari, former UN Under-Secretary-General for Political Affairs, emphasized the need for cooperation from all sides, including the government, political parties, and international actors, to uphold the rule of law and ensure lasting peace.

During the mission’s visit to Liberia from March 23 to 27, key meetings were held with President H.E.

the Minister of Foreign Affairs, H.E. Sarah Beysolow Nyanti, and members of the House of Representatives, alongside consultations with international partners and stakeholders. The mission called on all parties to respect the impending ruling from Liberia’s Supreme Court and to chart a clear roadmap for resolving the political deadlock.

In a statement issued at the conclusion of their mission, the team reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Liberia’s peace, stability, and development, urging national leaders, including former Presidents Ellen Johnson Sirleaf and Joseph Nyuma Boakai, to collaborate in advancing Liberia’s democratic and governance processes. ECOWAS also called on the international community to provide support to Liberia’s ongoing efforts to find a permanent solution to the crisis.
