As the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) marks its 37th anniversary, the agency reflects on decades of unwavering commitment to road safety in Nigeria. Over the years, FRSC has pioneered policies, enforcement strategies, and public awareness campaigns aimed at reducing road crashes and promoting responsible driving habits. While celebrating these achievements, the Corps has also extended its heartfelt gratitude to key stakeholders, particularly the media, whose support has played a pivotal role in advancing road safety initiatives.

In a statement commemorating the milestone, the Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, emphasized that FRSC’s accomplishments would not have been possible without the collaborative efforts of its stakeholders. He specifically acknowledged the media’s role in amplifying the Corps’ initiatives, shaping public perception, and holding the agency accountable in its mission to ensure safer roads.

“The partnership between FRSC and the media has been instrumental in disseminating crucial road safety information to the public. Through various media platforms, we have been able to educate road users, drive policy discussions, and reinforce the importance of compliance with safety regulations,” Mohammed stated.

Since its establishment in 1988, the FRSC has implemented numerous groundbreaking programs, including the Transport Safety Standardisation Scheme, Driving School Standardisation Programme, driver’s license reforms, speed limit enforcement, and emergency response services. These efforts have significantly contributed to reducing road accidents and fostering a culture of safety on Nigerian roads.

Beyond enforcement, the Corps has leveraged media engagement to drive behavioral change among motorists. Public enlightenment campaigns, safety awareness programs, and real-time traffic updates disseminated through traditional and digital media have strengthened FRSC’s impact. The Corps Marshal also highlighted the importance of media scrutiny, noting that constructive feedback from journalists has helped refine FRSC’s strategies and enhance service delivery.

As FRSC celebrates 37 years of excellence, it remains steadfast in its commitment to ensuring safer roads across Nigeria. Looking ahead, the Corps is calling for continued collaboration with the media and other stakeholders to sustain the progress achieved and further strengthen road safety measures nationwide.

The anniversary serves as a moment of reflection and renewal, reinforcing the shared responsibility of government agencies, the media, and the public in making Nigeria’s roads safer for all.
