ECOWAS Commission President H.E Dr Omar Alieu Touray Visits Spain As Government Unveils New Africa Strategy 2025-2028

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez has unveiled a new three-year strategic plan to boost Spain’s economic and diplomatic ties with Africa.

The move comes as Spain is struggling to curb a surge in irregular migrant arrivals by boat in Spain’s Canary Islands in the Atlantic, mainly from West Africa.

The presentation of the Spain-Africa Strategy 2025-2028. which took place at Mahdrid ,Spain December 5th was attended by H.E. Dr Omar Alieu TOURAY, President of the ECOWAS Commission, and Numerous personalities from Africa including H.E. Mohamed Ould Cheikh EL GHAZOUANI, President of Mauritania and current Chairman of the African Union, and H.E. Moussa FAKI, Chairman of the African Union Commission.

Representatives from civil society, the private sector and ambassadors from African countries accredited in Spain also attended the presentation ceremony.

The Spanish government has approved this new strategy to guide its relations with Africa. The ‘Spain-Africa Strategy 2025-2028’, which comprises ‘100 measures’, is based on strengthening ‘political dialogue’ with Africa, notably through the creation of a foundation to ‘generate academic opportunities’ for young Africans.
