TARABA NSCDC PARADES SUSPECT FOR POWER CABLE VANDALISM

By Raymond Enoch

In line with the its core mandate on protecting Critical National Assets and Infrastructures, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, (NSCDC) Taraba State Command has paraded one Mustapha Aminu (24) year old in connection with the vandalism of power cable belonging to the Taraba State Ministry of Energy and Economic Development

The arrest came at the heels of intensified patrols around critical national assets and infrastructures as ordered by the State Commandant Adamu Salihu.

“Mustapha was arrested by the NSCDC Anti-Vandal team on routine patrol on the 27th August 2024 at Jauro Gana, close to the Central Bank of Nigeria area in Jalingo.

This is as Investigations revealed that he stole the armoured cable which was used in the installation of street light on the newly constructed dial carriage way along Kpanti-Napu to Jauro Yinu on Saturday 24th August, 2024 and hid it in a nearby farm.

“Three days later he came to pick the cable to move it to Enugu where he intended to sell it at a more exorbitant price and that was when NSCDC Anti-Vandal team, acting on a tip off arrested him, he said.

Parading the suspect, Commandant Adamu decried the level of moral decadence among some youth who should have engaged themselves meaningfully in economic activities.

He urged parents to do better in training their wards so that they would not get involved in criminal activities.

“It is disheartening to see very young people involved in criminal activities. These young ones are the future of this country, we must not lose them to crime. “Vandalism of public utilities is a terrible crime against the nation, all parents and community leaders must join hands together to stop the rising menace”, he said.

It could be recalled that last week the Command paraded two young men for vandalizing power cables belonging to Taraba State Broadcasting Service (TSBS) booster station Zing, the trend seem not to be abetting.

Commandant Adamu called on the general public to be more vigilant around critical national assets and infrastructures provided by the government for their use and report any suspicious persons or activities around such facilities to any security formation close to them for prompt action.

The suspect has voluntarily confessed to the crime and he has been charged to court for immediate prosecution.
