UNDFF 2019-2028: NATIONAL COMMITTEE FOR FAMILY FARMING NIGERIA ENDORSED TO ADVANCE NATIONAL ACTION PLAN

The National Committee for Family Farming ( NCFF) has received the endorsement of the Nigerian government through Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security to promote the United Nations Decade for Family Farming (UNDFF) 2019-2028
In the letter made available to the media in Abuja , signed by the Director Nutrition and Food Safety Department Mrs S T Mahmood on behalf of the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, the National Coordinator of National Committee for Family Farming ( NCFF) Mr Raymond Nyayiti Enoch said that the objectives for which NCFF Nigeria sought the endorsement of the Federal Government of Nigeria ( FGN) is to work towards contributing to the realizations of the United Nations General Assembly ( UNGA) declaration of the decade for family farming since May 2019 which called on FAD and FAO member countries to develop effective policies that places family farmers, women, youth and other innovative food systems notably Family Farming at the center of food production at the country level..
He added that with the government endorsement of the NCFF in Nigeria, the enabling environment is now set for the NCFF in Nigeria to effectively mobilize stakeholders in Agriculture, Food and Nutrition Security to support the process that would lead to the adoption of National Action Plan ( NAP) to be implemented at the country by the Nigerian government.
Mr Enoch further said that NCFF in Nigeria has enjoyed a tremendous technical support from the UN Systems in Nigeria notably the International Fund for Agricultural Development ( IFAD) the Food and Agriculture Organization ( FAO) saying that such support would further engender other international agencies working in Food Security sector to support NAP development and its implementation in Nigeria.
He commended the Honorable Minister of Agriculture and Food Security ( FMAFS and his team for the bold step in the right direction in the in the interest of the country, especially now that the country needs all hands to be on desk in order to feed the populace of the country given the hard economic realities families face to feed.
