Road Traffic Incidents Must End: Justice Nyesom-Wike Sounds Alarm, Demands Nationwide Action at FRSC Investiture By Raymond Enoch

In a powerful and far-reaching call that struck at the heart of Nigeria’s road safety crisis, Justice Eberechi Suzzette Nyesom-Wike has declared that saving lives on the nation’s highways is not the duty of government alone, but a shared responsibility that demands urgent and collective action from all Nigerians.

Speaking at her investiture as an Honorary Special Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Abuja, Justice Nyesom-Wike challenged citizens to move beyond mere concern and become active players in promoting road safety. She stressed that the persistent menace of road crashes can only be curbed through discipline, vigilance, and a strong commitment from every road user.

The high-profile ceremony, held under the Federal Capital Territory Sector Command, was presided over by the Zonal Commanding Officer RS7HQ, Comfort Asom, who represented the Corps Marshal. Delivering the Corps Marshal’s charge, she underscored the importance of the Special Marshals scheme, describing volunteers as frontline advocates tasked with driving behavioral change and strengthening compliance with traffic laws across the country.

The event, conducted alongside the National Coordinator of Special Marshals, Usman Adaji, attracted a distinguished gathering of Justices from the Court of Appeal, adding prestige and institutional significance to the occasion.

In his remarks, the FCT Sector Commander, Tijani Iliyasu, reaffirmed the Command’s determination to deepen public engagement and widen the reach of road safety advocacy within the capital territory. He noted that the enlistment of respected figures like Justice Nyesom-Wike marks a strategic shift toward influence-driven campaigns aimed at reshaping public attitudes and encouraging strict adherence to traffic regulations.

In a compelling acceptance speech, Justice Nyesom-Wike issued a stern warning against reckless driving, dangerous overtaking, and other hazardous road behaviors. She urged Nigerians to develop a culture of safety consciousness, emphasizing that every life lost on the road is one too many.

Her message was clear and urgent: the time for indifference is over. Nigerians must rise, take responsibility, and work together to end the tragedy of avoidable road crashes.
