Germany Boosts Inclusive Development in Abuja with New Support to Deaf Resource Centre By Raymond Enoch
The German Embassy in Nigeria has taken a significant step toward strengthening inclusion and accessibility for persons with disabilities, commissioning newly upgraded facilities at the Deaf Resource Centre in Abuja under its Small-Scale Project Fund.
Through the initiative, the Embassy supported the Centre with a solar inverter system, air-conditioning units, and a television set—critical upgrades aimed at enhancing learning conditions, expanding digital access, and ensuring uninterrupted training for the Deaf community.
At the commissioning ceremony in Abuja, officials underscored Germany’s commitment to empowering vulnerable groups and promoting equal opportunities. The improved facility now provides a more conducive environment for the Centre’s fast-growing capacity-building programmes.
The Deaf Resource Centre continues to equip Deaf persons with practical skills in photography, videography, graphic design, and other digital tools. These programmes are delivered in partnership with Studio24, whose ongoing technical support has helped open new pathways to employment and economic independence for Deaf creatives.
With the strengthened infrastructure made possible by the German Embassy’s Small-Scale Project Fund, the Centre is poised to expand its impact—advancing inclusion, accessibility, and empowerment for the Deaf community in Nigeria.
