ECOWAS and Spain Cooperate on Strategic Ties to Deepen West African Integration and Development.

In a significant demonstration of international partnership, the Vice President of the ECOWAS Commission, H.E. Madam Damtien L. Tchintchibidja, welcomed a high-level Spanish delegation to the ECOWAS Headquarters in Abuja, underscoring both parties’ commitment to sustainable development and regional integration in West Africa.

Led by the Spanish Ambassador to Nigeria and ECOWAS, H.E. Félix Costales Arieda, along with Ms. Ximena Satori of the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID), the delegation engaged in in-depth discussions aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation and reinforcing Spain’s longstanding support to ECOWAS initiatives.
The talks highlighted Spain’s pivotal role in governance, institutional development, and regional integration. Vice President Tchintchibidja lauded Spain’s contribution of €1.067 million under the Institutional Support to ECOWAS (ISE) programme, emphasizing its impact in enhancing institutional capacities and ensuring more effective programme delivery across the region.
Both ECOWAS and the Spanish delegation reaffirmed their shared commitment to advancing economic transformation, peace and security, institutional efficiency, and robust diplomatic relations. The meeting served as a platform to explore new collaborative initiatives while reinforcing ECOWAS’ strategic partnerships with key international allies.
“Spain remains a steadfast partner in ECOWAS’ mission to foster sustainable development and regional cohesion,” Vice President Tchintchibidja stated. Ambassador Costales Arieda echoed this sentiment, noting that continued cooperation would further consolidate regional stability and growth.
The engagement underscores a shared vision for a prosperous and integrated West Africa, highlighting how multilateral collaboration can drive progress and strengthen diplomatic relations.
