Ans: It is a privilege to serve as the Republic of Côte d’Ivoire’s Honorary Consul to the Republic of Malta. In this role, my mandate is to strengthen bilateral relations, foster mutual understanding, and advance collaboration in political, economic, and cultural spheres. I work closely with both governments and the broader diplomatic community to encourage partnership, facilitate dialogue, and promote areas of shared interest.

Q: How do you view the current state of relations between Malta and Côte d’Ivoire, and more broadly, Malta’s engagement with West Africa and the ECOWAS region?
Ans: Relations between Malta and Côte d’Ivoire are increasingly vibrant, underpinned by shared strategic priorities in economic cooperation, maritime affairs, and sustainable development. Malta’s engagement with the ECOWAS region reflects a growing recognition of Africa’s pivotal role on the global stage.
Both countries are committed to fostering partnerships that advance stability, trade, and sustainable development.
Priorities as Honorary Consul
Q: What are your primary priorities as Honorary Consul in strengthening bilateral political, economic, and cultural relations between Côte d’Ivoire and Malta?
Ans: My priorities include enhancing diplomatic outreach, facilitating trade and investment, and promoting cultural and educational exchanges. I aim to position Côte d’Ivoire as a reliable economic partner for Malta, while highlighting Malta’s strategic opportunities for Ivorian stakeholders. Strengthening institutional collaboration and people-to-people connections remains central to my work.

Q: Côte d’Ivoire is one of West Africa’s strongest and fastest-growing economies. Could you highlight its economic profile and key sectors that offer attractive investment opportunities for Maltese and European partners?
Ans: Côte d’Ivoire is a diversified and rapidly growing economy, leading globally in cocoa production and exporting key commodities such as cashew, rubber, and coffee. Key sectors for investment include agro-processing, renewable energy, infrastructure development, logistics, digital services, and manufacturing. These sectors are expanding under the country’s long-term development plan, offering attractive opportunities for international partners.
Trade Relations with the EU
Q: Trade relations between Côte d’Ivoire and the European Union are well established. What opportunities do you see specifically for Malta within this EU–Côte d’Ivoire economic framework?
A: Malta’s strategic position in the Mediterranean and its strong services economy provide unique opportunities within the EU–Côte d’Ivoire framework.
Malta can play a significant role in trade facilitation, maritime cooperation, financial services, and technology transfer, serving as a bridge between European markets and West African economic corridors.
Cultural and Educational Exchanges
Q: How do cultural and educational exchanges contribute to reinforcing the partnership between Malta and Côte d’Ivoire? Are there specific initiatives you aim to promote?
A: Cultural and educational exchanges form the foundation of enduring diplomatic relationships. I actively support academic partnerships, scholarships, student exchanges, and cultural initiatives that showcase the rich heritage of both nations. Ans: Serving as Non-Resident Ambassador of the State of the African Diaspora provided invaluable insight into Africa’s diversity, potential, and aspirations.
This experience reinforced my commitment to diplomatic service and deepened my understanding of African communities, guiding my efforts to build meaningful partnerships across the continent.

Q: From your perspective, how can Malta more actively support regional stability, economic integration, and development across West Africa through diplomatic partnerships?
Ans: Malta is well positioned to contribute to West Africa’s stability and integration by leveraging its expertise in diplomacy, maritime governance, digital innovation, and capacity-building. Strategic engagement with ECOWAS institutions and individual West African nations can facilitate economic growth, good governance, and sustainable peace.

Q: What message would you like to deliver to policymakers, investors, and the international community regarding the future of Côte d’Ivoire–Malta cooperation?
Ans: Côte d’Ivoire and Malta share a strong commitment to building a future-oriented partnership.
