In a bold demonstration of regional solidarity and commitment to humanitarian welfare, the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has launched a $1,036,416 humanitarian assistance project to support displaced persons, stateless individuals, and host communities in Côte d’Ivoire.

The official launch ceremony, held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Integration and the Diaspora in Abidjan, brought together senior officials from ECOWAS, the Ivorian government, and international partners, marking a significant milestone in regional humanitarian coordination.
Representing ECOWAS, Dr. Ugbe Tarfa Sintiki, Director of Humanitarian and Social Affairs, reaffirmed the organization’s dedication to addressing the plight of vulnerable populations affected by displacement and statelessness across West Africa. He emphasized that the initiative reflects ECOWAS’ ongoing mission to ensure “no one is left behind” in the region’s development and peace agenda.

Key participants included Mr. Joachim Kouassi Kante, Director of Cabinet at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Integration and Ivorians Abroad; Mr. Olivier Guillaume Beer, UNHCR Resident Representative; Mr. Marc Konan Kouassi, Deputy Director of Protection at DAARA; and Madam Fathma Diarre Mahan, Acting ECOWAS Special Representative to Côte d’Ivoire.
The humanitarian support package aims to strengthen resilience among affected communities through improved access to basic needs, protection services, and community integration initiatives. It also seeks to enhance national and regional frameworks for the management of statelessness and displacement, aligning with ECOWAS’ broader human security and social protection objectives.
This latest intervention reinforces ECOWAS’ leadership in promoting human dignity, inclusivity, and sustainable recovery for populations in distress, while deepening cooperation among member states and international partners to ensure lasting peace and stability in West Africa.
