In a strategic move to bolster regional peacekeeping capabilities, the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has concluded its Third Annual Training on Operational-Level Logistics for Peace Support Operations (PSO) in Lagos.

Held from November 3 to 7, 2025, the high-level training—organized by the ECOWAS Commission’s Directorate of Peacekeeping and Regional Security (DPKRS)—focused on building the capacity of personnel to effectively plan, manage, and execute logistics functions in regional peace missions.

The sessions covered key operational areas, including deployment planning, mission sustainment, and liquidation procedures, equipping participants with vital tools for field efficiency and mission readiness.

Mr. Bekaye Coulibaly, Head of the Civilian Component and Representative of the Director of Peacekeeping and Regional Security, chaired the opening ceremony. He was joined by the Commandant of the Nigeria College of Logistics and Management (NACOLM), Major General Adewale Collins Adetoba, and Brigadier General (Rtd.) Hassan Lai, former Chief of Staff of the ECOWAS Standby Force, among other notable experts.

Participants drawn from the military, police, and civilian components across ECOWAS Member States, along with officers from the ECOWAS Logistics Depot, took part in the intensive training sessions.

Dr. Danjuma Aku, Programme Officer for Rostering and Training, and Mr. Baba Midjida Ligbi, Programme Officer for Logistics, also represented the ECOWAS Commission.

According to ECOWAS, the annual exercise underscores its unwavering commitment to strengthening the operational effectiveness of the ECOWAS Standby Force and improving regional crisis response mechanisms in line with the ECOWAS Conflict Prevention Framework and broader peace and security agenda.
