70 Years of Women in Policing: NPF Zone 7 Launches GBV Awareness Walk to Mark Milestone.
By Raymond Enoch
The Nigeria Police Force (NPF), Zone 7 Headquarters, Abuja, has officially kicked off week-long celebrations marking 70 years of women in policing in Nigeria, with a high-profile Gender-Based Violence (GBV) Awareness Walk.
In a statement signed by ASP Mohammed Halima, Police Public Relations Officer, the Force described the initiative as a critical step in amplifying the collective voice against all forms of violence targeting women and girls. The walk, which drew officers, stakeholders, community leaders, civil society organizations, and members of the public, underscores the Force’s commitment to promoting safety, justice, and equal rights for all citizens.
Following the walk, AIG Victor Olaiya and senior officers paid courtesy visits to retired policewomen within the Zone, celebrating their invaluable contributions and gathering insights to strengthen the future of women in the Force. Discussions focused on enhancing welfare, capacity, and representation of women officers across the country.
Highlighting the pivotal role of women in community safety, conflict resolution, and professional policing, the AIG urged the public to actively support efforts to curb gender-based violence and to honour the sacrifices of women who have served Nigeria through the Police Force over the past seven decades.
“Together, we celebrate the past, empower the present, and secure a safer future for every woman,” AIG Olaiya emphasized.
